Offshore contractor Saipem and Italian civil engineering group Trevi plan to jointly design two drilling systems for large-diameter foundation holes for offshore wind farms.
Under the Italian firms’ memorandum of understanding they plan to develop a design that can cope with the specific geotechnical and geophysical data regarding the locations to be drilled, in order to identify the most appropriate drilling strategy and technology.
They might also jointly develop such technology, the companies added.
Traditionally an oil and gas contractor, Saipem has recently been involved in floating platform design, foundation installation and jacket supply for large-scale wind farms, and is also considering developing offshore wind farms.
