Italian developer Falck Renewables and floating specialist BlueFloat Energy have revealed their plans for the up to 1300MW Odra Energia project, their second Italian floating offshore wind farm.

Planned for a site off the Province of Lecce, Apulia, its annual production could be about 4TWh.

Documents to kick-start the permitting process will be filed and a preliminary consultation undertaken.

In June, Italy’s ministry for the ecological transition sought expressions of interest for developing floating offshore wind projects.

The addition of Odra Energia takes the JV’s Italian floating offshore wind pipeline to 2.5GW.

It is also planning the 1200MW Kailia Energia off Brindisi, Apuila, but no target date has yet been set for either project’s commissioning.

Italy currently lacks any operational offshore wind capacity. However, Renexia is constructing the 30MW Beleolico wind farm, a near-shore, fixed-bottom project that is due for completion in 2022.
