Floating offshore wind specialist BlueFloat Energy and Italian developer Falck Renewables are considering the potential for floating wind projects in the Celtic Sea.

Lying off Cornwall, south-west England and Wales, the area has great potential for floating offshore wind farms, due to its “excellent” wind resources and the availability of suitable infrastructure and a supply chain, the companies believe.

The partners have previously teamed up with Ørsted to bid in the ScotWind offshore wind leasing round. They also recently announced plans for a floating offshore wind farm off Italy.

They took part in a consultation undertaken by the UK’s seabed landlord, The Crown Estate, on how to support floating offshore wind development in the Celtic Sea.

Meanwhile, Falck owns stakes in operational onshore wind farms, but not in operational offshore capacity.
