Wobben resigned his post of co-managing director at Enercon, held since 2016, and all his other positions in the company organisation in early July 2019 "in order to take on new professional challenges", a company statement said.
Wobben, nephew of company founder Aloys Wobben, replaced former co-managing director Nicole Fritsch-Nehring.
His areas of responsibility will be redistributed by late summer, the company added. Enercon said its activities would not be affected by the change.
The manufacturer is continuing to place "increased focus on international markets and consistent development of new business segments as a supplement to the core business of turbine technology with all the necessary commitment and vigour", fully supported by the Aloys Wobben Foundation, which owns Enercon.
For the time being, Hans-Dieter Kettwig, Enercon's long-serving managing director will continue to lead the business solo, while a replacement for Wobben is found. A further announcement from the company is expected in the coming weeks.
