Vestas secures debut Panama order

PANAMA: Vestas has received its first order for a wind farm in Panama, the 66MW Toabré project in the central province of Coclé.

With the order from Panama, Vestas has extended its global reach to 79 countries

It will provide 20 of its V117-3.45 turbines in load-optimised mode for the site, which is owned by Parque Eólico Toabré S.A., a company owned by Recursos Eólicos S.A., a Panamanian company, and Audax Renovables S.A., a Spanish listed company.

Spanish contractors Elecnor will carry out engineering, procurement and construction of the project.

Turbine delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2019 and commissioning is expected by the last quarter of that year.

Panama has 270MW of installed capacity, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç. This is concentrated in one two-phase project owned by turbine supplier Goldwind and developer Unión Eolica Panameña. It is also located in the province of Coclé.

Australia

As well as receiving its first order in Panama, Vestas has also been contracted to supply turbines with a combined capacity of 288MW for a wind farm in Victoria, Australia.

The manufacturer will provide 60 units of its V136-3.6MW model, delivered in power-optimised mode and with hub heights of 93 metres for the Lal Lal project.

Turbines will be fitted with radar-activated aviation lights specifically optimised for use in a wind farm – the first time such an application will have been deployed in Australia, Vestas claims. The InteliLight system uses radar to turn on when needed, avoiding unnecessary continuous lighting.

The manufacturer will source 80 tower sections for the project from renewable energy components producer Keppel Prince Engineering, which is based in Victoria in south-eastern Australia.

Vestas expects to start delivering the turbines in the fourth quarter of 2018, it stated. Commissioning is scheduled by the third quarter of 2019.

Lal Lal is owned by a partnership comprising financial consultants Infrared Capital Partners, investment bankers Macquarie Capital and private market investors Northleaf Capital.

Vestas has now received orders or installed turbines in 79 countries, it stated.
