As part of the deal, Vestas will supply a mixture of V116 and V110 2MW turbines from Q4 2018 and a ten-year service agreement.
Vestas said the deal was part of Xcel’s large expansion plan, which will see the company grow its operating wind capacity by over 3.6GW by 2021.
The manufacturer is currently providing turbines to Xcel’s 600MW Rush Creek project under construction in Colorado.
This latest deal follows a 212MW order in mid-June from Longroad Energy in Texas.
Vestas will supply its V136-3.45MW turbines, optimised to 3.6MW, to the Rio Bravo site.
The project was developed by Steelhead Americas, a Vestas subsidiary that advances wind sites in the US.
Delivery is expected in early 2019 and Vestas will service the machines for 20 years.
