The machine was unveiled by Nordex in August, along with the low-wind N131 3.6MW turbine. They were officially launched at the WindEnergy Hamburg event in September.
The first unit of the N117 has been installed in Bargeshagen, near Rostock, northern Germany for testing.
Nordex said it hoped to have the turbine fully certified by summer 2017.
"The fact that our customer can commission the first N117/3600 so soon after its official market launch shows the great confidence placed in our product development," said Nordex sales and marketing COO Patxi Landa.
A further N117 3.6MW and two N117 2.4MW turbines will be installed at the same site in 2017.
