"It's serving the wind industry on many different levels. From my perspective, big data is helping us to predict and prevent failures from happening on wind turbines," Pedersen explained.
Using large amounts of data from sensors on the turbines, operators and service providers can build digital models of their machinery to predict when a component needs replacing.
"I don't see any limitations actually, I would say the sky's the limit because there's huge amounts of opportunities.
"When you begin to quantify non-tangible information like behaviour and activities among the people who service the turbines in a way that we can measure it and compare it on a bigger scale then we are going to learn a lot more in the future. It's very exciting," Pedersen added.
