Siemens wins 280MW US deal

UNITED STATES: Siemens has been awarded a 280MW deal from developer Westar Energy to supply turbines to a project in Kansas, US.

Siemens' 2.3MW turbine will be installed at the project in south-west Kansas

Siemens will manufacture 122 SWT-2.3-108 turbines to be installed at the Western Plains wind farm near Spearville, south-west Kansas.

Installation will begin this summer, with commissioning expected in early 2017, according to Siemens.

The turbines' nacelles will be assembled at Siemens' Kansas facility in Hutchinson, approximately 100-miles east of the project site.

Siemens has installed over 9GW of 2.3MW wind turbines in the US.

In October, Siemens won a 151MW deal from Apex Clean Energy in the neighbouring state of Oklahoma for the same turbine.
