The Spanish firm will supply and install five G97-2MW turbines at the 10MW demonstration project being built at Al-Shagaya, 100km west of Kuwait City.
In December 2013, Kuwait, one of the world's biggest oil producers, launched a programme to install 2GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, amounting to 15% of the country's electricity supply.
Turkey
Gamesa has also won two orders, worth 52.5MW, in Turkey. The first order is from local renewable energy development firm Ado Enerji to supply 42MW turbines for three projects. Gamesa will deliver 20 G114-2MW turbines that have been uprated to produce 2.1MW for three Ado projects. The Akyurt and Konakpinari projects will each use seven G114 turbines, and the Karacayir site will have six G114 turbines.
The second order given to Gamesa in Turkey is from local developer Kazanci Holding to supply five G114-2.5MW turbines to the Datca project. It is the first time this turbine will be used in the country.
All the turbines destined for Turkey will be delivered and installed in 2016.
Cyprus
A further five G114-2MW turbines will be delivered to a local conglomerate Aeoliki Akti for its Sanida Kelaki project in Cyprus.
Delivery is also expected in early 2016 and the project will be completed by the third quarter next year.
