Navitus Bay
Port MoU: Jan De Nul and Portland Port have signed a memorandum of understanding to use the English Channel port as a supply base if Jan de Nul is contracted to install foundations at the 970MW Navitus Bay project.
If the port is required, the harbour facilities would be upgraded.
Planned for a site off the Dorset and Hampshire coasts and west of the Isle of Wight, the 970MW Navitus Bay is a joint venture between Eneco and EDF Energy.
The deadline for government approval on the project is 11 September. 27-Aug-15
Windfloat Pacific
Project committee: The governor of Oregon has appointed a task force to promote the WindFloat Pacific project.
The WindFloat Pacific offshore wind advisory committee will seek to maximise local involvement in the 30MW demo project, which is planned for a site off Oregon, north-west US.
The project is to comprise five 6MW turbines on floating foundations. It is being developed by Principle Power and Deepwater Wind. 27-Aug-15
Borssele
Wind assessment: Ecofys has assessed the wind resource in the 1.4GW Borssele zone in the Dutch North Sea.
It calculated the mean wind speed at 100 metres in the centre of the zone to be approximately 9.6m/s.
Lying near the southern border of the Dutch exclusive Eeonomic zone (EEZ), the Borssele zone will be divided into four wind farm sites. 28-Aug-15
Kentish Flats Extension
First power: Vattenfall's 49.5MW Kentish Flats Extension has delivered its first power to the National Grid.
The project uses 15 MHI-Vestas V112-3.3MW turbines.
The extension of the 90MW Kentish Flats offshore project lies seven kilometres off the Kent coast. It will be fully operational this autumn. 31-Aug-15
Gemini
Substations in: Van Oord has installed the second of Gemini's two offshore substations 85 kilometres off the Dutch coast.
Belgian consortium FICG won the contract to design, build and install the substations for the project in June 2014. The FICG consortium is made up of engineering firms CG and Cofely Fabricom, and steel construction company Iemants.
Under construction in the Dutch North Sea, the 600MW Gemini is co-owned by Northland Power (60%), Siemens (20%), Van Oord (10%) and HVC (10%). It is due for completion in 2017. 31-Aug-15
Global Tech I
Project online: Global Tech I has been officially commissioned. The 400MW wind farm comprises 80 Adwen (previously Areva) 5MW turbines, all of which are now operational and supplying power to the grid.
Global Tech I lies 140 kilometres offshore in the North Sea. 2-Sep-15
