Vestas wins 70MW Uruguay deal from Abengoa subsidiary

URUGUAY: Vestas has been awarded a 70MW turbine supply deal by Teyma Uruguay, a subsidiary of Spanish developer Abengoa, for a project on the border with Argentina.

Vestas' V100 turbine will be installed at the Palomas project in Uruguay

Vestas will provide the Palomas wind project with 35 V110-2MW turbines and service them for ten years. The project is located in the northwest region of Salto.

Turbines are due for delivery in early 2016 with the project expected online by the middle of the year.

Vestas said this was the first time the two companies had agreed a deal in Uruguay. Abengoa was granted the license to develop the Palomas project in 2013. 

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the data and research division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, Abengoa has also developed the 50MW Cuchilla de Paralta and 50MW Talas de Maciel II projects, both of which use Gamesa turbines.

It is Vestas' second order in Uruguay this year. Last week, it was awarded a 50MW deal by project company Glymont SA to provide its V117-3.3MW turbines to the Florida II project in southern Uruguay.

Uruguay has the most ambitious 2030 target in Latin America, intending to source 100% of its power from renewable sources by that date, and 30% through wind.
