The electricity generated by its 20 Nordex N100/2500 turbines is being sold to the state-owned energy utility UTE through a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Enel GP, an affiliate of Italian utility Enel, has developed around 2GW of renewable capacity in Latin America, principally in Brazil, Mexico and Chile, but Melowind marks its first wind project in Uruguay.
According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's data division, the project was initially developed by a joint venture between Juwi and Ferrostaal and sold to Enel GP in 2012.
Melowind is located in the Cerro Largo department in the east of the country, bordered by Brazil.
