Vestas wins 19.8MW deal in Australia

AUSTRALIA: Vestas has secured an order for a 19.8MW project in Australia from a consortium headed up by Eurus Energy and Windlab.

The contract is for six V117-3.3MW medium-wind turbines to go to the Coonooer Bridge wind project in the state of Victoria. According to Vestas the development will be commissioned in March 2016.

Vestas said it includes a long-term service agreement, although it was unable to reveal a timescale.

In a statement, Windlab CEO Roger Price said: "Vestas' track record and performance in the Australian market were key factors in Windlab and Eurus Energy selecting them to construct and maintain the wind farm."

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's data division, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, Vestas' other major wind farm in Victoria is the 420MW Macarthur project.

Recently, the opposition Labour party said it was willing to compromise on the Renewable Energy Target (RET) in a bid to restart the country's faltering industry.

Prime minister Tony Abbott's right-wing, anti-wind government wants to slash or scrap the RET, which calls for 45TWh to be sourced from renewables by 2020.

The federal government currently lacks the support to push through changes to the target, which has been the main driver for wind development in recent years.

But its stance against the RET has discouraged wind developers. Around 380MW is expected to be installed this year, compared with 567MW in 2014.
