Prior to the new company, DEC had under it five turbine manufacturing bases and four plants making wind components across the country. They supplied six major wind power development areas in China.
The new company, DEC Wind Power, headquartered in Deyang, Sichuan Province in south-west China, would integrate the operation and management of the group's whole wind business with respect to R&D, manufacturing, servicing and marketing.
It is the largest-scale restructuring in the group's history.
Entering the wind power sector a little more than a decade ago, DEC has developed turbines ranging from 1MW to 5.5MW in unit capacity. The DEC turbines adopt either DFIG or direct-drive technology, which is uncommon for a single Chinese manufacturer.
In 2013, DEC merged two of its divisions to set up a wind power division within DEC. The restructure created two sub-companies, Dongfang Turbine (DTC) and Dongfang Electric Machinery (DFEM).
