Hitachi to supply 5MW turbine to Murakami project

JAPAN: A ten-company consortium headed by Hitachi Zosen Corporation (Hitz) has received the go ahead to explore the possibility of an offshore project off the coast of Niigata prefecture, local officials told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore.

The project will use 44 5MW turbines developed by Hitachi, with a total power generating capacity of 220MW.

The 5MW turbine is the most powerful commercially available turbine in Japan at present, and it is anticipated the project could produce 670GWh annually.

Most of the generated power is likely to be sold to Tohoku Electrical Power Company, said a Hitz spokesman.

Hitz was formerly a member of the Hitachi Group, but is now independent.

The turbines will be located approximately 2 kilometres offshore in water depth of 10-35 metres.
