WindEnergy 2014: Blades will get longer

GERMANY: Wind turbines blades will continue to get longer, meaning developing ways to transport them is an ongoing process, Joachim Kolb, manager of market research and development at the Scheuerle Group told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV.

Showcasing a second-generation InterCombi vehicle outside WindEnergy Hamburg, Kolb said the company would continue to refine its transportation offerings as blades get longer.

"We have to work on it. The industry does not stop working on its blades.

"They will be bigger in the future and we should lift our equipment to the same level to help those guys once again," Kolb said.

The vehicle can lift blades to 60 degrees vertically, rotate them 110 degrees in either direction and is equipped with a remote control. It can also carry blades weighing up to 25 tonnes.

Scheuerle's vehicle was being used to show Nordex's new 64.4-metre turbine blade for the N131/300 turbine.
