WindEnergy 2014: Forecasting can cut costs, says Statkraft

GERMANY: The cost of integrating wind energy can be reduced by more effective forecasting and power balancing, Stefan-Jorg Gobel of Statkraft told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV.

Speaking at the WindEnergy Hamburg trade show, the company's head of trading and origination Europe said that the key challenge for wind is accurate forecasting and the effective balancing of power fed into the grid.

"It's a good way to reduce the cost of integrating wind energy that we are sharp in a competitive way, balancing the power that flows into the grid," he said.

He went on to talk about the key markets that Statkraft is targeting, highlighting the German onshore servicing market. The company would also like to have a greater share of servicing contracts for offshore projects, but Gobel said there are "a limited number of projects", restricting expansion opportunities.
