Gamesa reveals new 2.5MW model

SPAIN: Gamesa is to reveal a new version of its 2.5MW turbine, with a smaller rotor suited to higher wind sites.

The 2.5MW platform is based on Gamesa's existing 2MW turbines

The Spanish manufacturer will unveil the G106-2.5MW turbine at the WindEnergy Hamburg trade fair this week.

It is based on the G114-2.5MW machine, which Gamesa revealed at the 2013 AWEA conference in Chicago and is in turn developed from the company's 2MW platform.

"[For the] G106 there is not much work to do as it has the same nacelle and almost the same tower as the G114. It's just a matter of designing the appropriate blade for high winds," Gamesa marketing director Juan Diego Diaz told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV at the WindEnergy Hamburg trade show.

The 2.5MW platform uses a new generator, but also shared components with the G114-2MW turbine, launched in 2012.

Gamesa believes that the G106 will produce 30% more energy than the existing G90-2MW while lowering the cost of energy by 10%.

The company will also reveal Windnet Pro, an advanced version of its control and monitoring software. Gamesa has upgraded the Scada package with a new interface that it claims will make the software more intuitive and user friendly.
