Suárez was previously the number two in the region but was promoted to managing director, the top executive position in the division, as of 1 September.
Born in Bilbao, Spain, Suárez is a law graduate and previously worked for Gamesa for 14 years as director of legal counsel. He later joined law firm Uría & Menéndez as a partner in their corporate law department, and then served as general secretary of a family-owned company in Navarra, Spain.
He rejoined Gamesa in 2013 as deputy managing director for Mexico and Latin America. Suárez's remit does not cover Brazil, which is run as a separate region.
Latin America is one of Gamesa's main target regions as it looks to expand beyond its traditional European markets. The company has installed more than 1.5GW of its turbines in the region.
