Moventas expands with Italian service unit

ITALY: Moventas has created an Italian subsidiary to deal with what it describes as growing demand for gearbox servicing in southern and eastern Europe.

Moventas Italy will service gearboxes in southern and eastern Europe

The company already has servicing teams based in the country, but now intends to set up a unit in Italy and recruit local workers to bolster its presence in the country.

"[Italy] might be a struggling market in terms of new installations, but there is a lot of business relating to after-sale services," said Arto Lahtela, Moventas senior vice president for wind gears.

"We will be providing unit inspections, servicing, gearbox replacements and spare parts, and there is a growing demand for this."

Moventas Italy will also support customers in Greece, Turkey and eastern Europe. The subsidiary is located close to Milan and run by Lorenzo Monaco, who has been with Moventas since 2012.

"The market in Italy, as well as in Europe, has changed significantly. We believe our service approach that emphasises prolonging older gearboxes' lives and reducing O&M costs is beneficial to the clientele in this area," he said.

Moventas also has a Spanish unit in Madrid and a French unit in Bordeaux.
