The 6.4-metre diameter monopiles will be manufactured by EEW at its Rostock plant in northern Germany, with the 72 monopiles expected to begin construction by the end of this year. The company said this contract means it will be working at full capacity until the middle of 2015.
The German manufacturer said it would subcontract the manufacturing of the turbines' transition pieces to Danish firm Bladt Industries.
Swedish utility Vattenfall and German firm Stadtwerke Munchen are jointly developing Sandbank. Last week, the developers handed engineering firm Bilfinger the contract to install the monopiles, which will support Siemens 4MW turbines.
EEW has been selected to work on a number of offshore projects. It was recently handed the contract to supply the foundations for Dong Energy's Gode Wind 1 and 2 projects.
