The 40 Areva M5000 turbines, array cables and platform have been connected, allowing the project to enter the commissioning phase. The project is expected to be fully commissioned in early 2015.
Trianel, the project's developer, announced the completion of turbine installation at the start of June. The 5MW turbines were installed by the MPI Adventure jack-up vessel. French engineering firm Technip carried out the cable installation at the site.
The developer was founded by municipal and regional utilities from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, making Borkum West II the first offshore project to be developed in this way.
It is also the first full-scale commercial site to feature Areva's 5MW turbine.
