The topside, housing the transformers and electrical switching equipment, has now been installed on its foundation 36 kilometres from shore. At 3,000 metric tons, it is the largest single component that will be installed at the wind farm.
The unmanned transformer station will be operated and serviced from the wind farm's service station on the island of Helgoland.
Amrumbank West is not due to be completed and enter service until the third quarter of 2015. It will feature 80 Siemens 3.6MW turbines. Foundation installation at the project began in January.
