E.on commissioned jack-up vessel MPI Discovery to install the turbines, which are loaded at Cuxhaven, Germany, and taken to the site. The first foundation has been installed at the site, 37 kilometres off the island of Heligoland.
The vessel’s ram drives the 60-metre-long steel monopile foundations 30 metres into the seabed, at water depths of up to 24 metres.
The foundations, which consists of the monopiles and transition pieces, weighs 900 metric tons.
E.on said it is working to reduce water-borne noise during pile-driving.
Siemens is supplying, installing and will commission 80 of its 3.6MW turbines and will maintain them for the first five years.
Construction of the 32 square-kilometre Amrumbank wind farm is scheduled for completion and commissioning in spring 2015.
In 2011 E.on agreed to charter jack-up vessel MPI Discovery and in April MPI announced the six-year chartership had begun. MPI is owned by Dutch shipping group Vroon.
