Goldwind installs low-wind prototype

CHINA: A prototype of Goldwind's new low-wind 2MW turbine is operating and connected to the grid, the Chinese manufacturer has revealed.

Goldwind's new 2MW machine is now operating

The GW115/2000 turbine was hooked up to the grid on 7 April at the Zhangbei wind power test base in Hebei Province in the north east of the country.

A 115-metre rotor means the turbine has a swept area of 10,386 square metres and as such is suited to sites with average wind speeds as low as 5.2 m/s.

The development of the direct-drive permanent-magnet turbine relied on the same research and development platform that produced Goldwind's mature 1.5MW and 2.5MW models.

Now that the turbine is in place, Goldwind will put it through its paces with low-voltage ride through performance testing. Results are expected in July.
