Dong Energy, which bought the project from Centrica last December, contracted the firm to design the piece of infrastructure for the 580MW UK project, meaning Atkins is now designing five substations for the Danish developer.
Among the substations Atkins is designing are those for Dong's Walney and Burbo extension projects.
Dong said it hopes to drive down the cost of offshore wind through standardising the design of substations across its projects.
"This will enable a production line approach to fabrication, rather than a bespoke solution each time, and will reduce costs without compromising safety and reliability," said Dong UK manager Benj Sykes.
A report on the UK offshore supply chain released in February showed that, while the country falls short in manufacturing components for its own offshore wind farms, it excels in design work.
The 580MW Race Bank project lies 27 kilometres off England's east coast. It is expected to go online in 2018.
