Germany's first jack-up vessel heads to Luchterduinen

GERMANY: Aeolus, the first jack-up vessel to be built in Germany, has left the Sietas shipbuilding yard in Hamburg for the North Sea port of Bremerhaven, from where it will undertake its first commission.

In July it will be used in the construction of the 43 turbine Luchterduinen wind farm off the Dutch coast, owned by Eneco and the Mitsubishi Corporation.

The vessel has been built for Dutch company Van Oord while the Sieta Yard is going through insolvency proceedings, said legal group Brinkmann & Partner.

On 10 March, the Sieta Yard is to be taken over by Hamburg-based company Terraline, owned by the Pella Shipyard of Otradnoye near St. Petersburg in Russia, assuming the creditors and banks rubberstamp the deal.

Terraline will then be renamed Pella Sietas, according to Brinkmann & Partner.
