Innovation begins transporting Westermost Rough foundations

UK: HGO InfraSea Solutions' heavy-lift jack-up vessel Innovation has started transporting the foundations for the Westermost Rough offshore wind project.

The Innovation vessel is carrying out the foundation work

The foundations have been constructed by Blandt Industries at its plant in Aalborg harbour, Denmark, and are now being shipped to Grimsby port in the East of England.

A contract signed between the vessel operator and developer Dong Energy last year covers the installation of 35 monopiles and transition pieces.

The 210MW project will be made up of 35 Siemens 6MW turbines. It is located 8 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast in the north-east of England.

The Innovation has a loading capacity of 8000 tonnes and a 1,500-tonne crane. It was chosen due to the large size of the foundations.

The project is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2015.
