EWZ partners Wpd in Butendiek offshore wind farm

GERMANY: Swiss energy company Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (EW) is to become a partner in Wpd's 288MW Butendiek offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Siemens 3.6MW turbines will be installed at Butendiek

EWZ is investing in the EUR 1.3 billion Butendiek wind farm, which lies 32 kilmetres west of the island of Sylt, to diversify its investment in wind energy in Switzerland and elsewhere.

Other investors in the project, which will feature 80 Siemens 3.6 turbines, are European investment group Marguerite Fund, Siemens Project Ventures, French investment company CDC Infrastructure and Danish pension companies Industriens Pensionsforsikring and PKA.

Construction of Butendiek is due to begin in March, with the first wind turbines installed in autumn and work finished in the summer of 2015.
