Siemens charters two offshore service vessels

GERMANY: Ship operator Esvagt will supply Siemens Energy with two newly developed offshore wind service vessels to support projects in the North Sea and Baltic Sea.

The ships are being commissioned specifically for Siemens' service operations at the Butendiek and Baltic II projects, both of which are scheduled to come online in 2015 with a capacity of 288MW each.

Rather than using smaller vessels or helicopters to access the turbines, the new vessels will provide direct access using a hydraulic gangway system.

The vessels will also include accommodation for more than 30 technicians for several weeks at a time.

Siemens Service Renewables CEO Tim Holt said: "This new, state-of-the-art design concept has been developed with a strong focus on advancing and streamlining our offshore service operations and logistics for the benefit of our customers."
