Jumbo wins Butendiek foundation work

GERMANY: Jumbo Maritime has been handed the contract for the transport and installation of the transition pieces at Butendiek offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Transitions pieces sit on top of the monopile

The company has been awarded the contract by Ballast Nedam Offshore, which is handling the foundation work on the project for developer WPD.

The transition pieces, which sit on the monopile and allow for the installation of the turbine, are being made in Esbjerg, Denmark, and will be installed by the Jumbo Javelin installation vessel.

During the summer of 2014, the vessel will lift, ship and install all transition pieces in ten voyages.

Each transition piece weighs approximately 330 tonnes, and Jumbo has invested in increased lifting capability of the vessel by acquiring a 700-tonne fly-jib.
