Under the deal Areva will provide its offshore wind turbine knowledge while CGN will become an operator of projects in China and Europe, as well as contribute investment.

The CGN deal, which also includes biomass, solar and energy storage, comes on the back of French prime minister Jean-Marc Ayrault’s visit to China.

Areva also signed an agreement with CGN to co-develop nuclear and renewable energy.

On 29 November, Areva launched an 8MW turbine. The prototype is due to be installed in 2015 and serial production is to begin in 2018.
