The support vessel will serve the maintenance and service teams in Liverpool Bay, 7 kilometres from the Merseyside coast, nort-east England. It is part of the Danish company’s Swath series, which are designed for high-speed passenger transport.
The new carbon-fibre craft is currently docked at the company’s shipyard in Skagen, Denmark. A fourth vessel in the series is due to launch in December.
Separately, the Planning Inspectorate, the UK government agency responsible for granting construction permits, is examining the Burbo Bank Extension consent application. Dong plans to add up 258MW of capacity, west of its existing 90MW Burbo Bank site.
The preliminary meeting was held on 26 September, with the examination set to close on 26 March 2014. The Planning Inspectorate will then make a recommendation to the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
If it is approved, the extension could come online in 2016.
