Nordex signs blade deal with TPI Composites

TURKEY: Nordex has signed a supply agreement with US supplier TPI Composites for the 58.5 metre rotor blades for its N117/2400 turbine.

Nordex's N117 blade will be produced at the Izmir plant

TPI will manufacture the NR-58.5 blade at its Turkish plant in Izmir, with production due to commence in February 2014. Nordex will also be fitting the blade to the upcoming N117/3000 Delta series.

In November Nordex increased its production facilities in Rostock to cater for a rise in demand for its N117/2400 low wind speed turbine.

The German company also works with German supplier SGL Rotec to produce the 58.5 metre blades.

TPI operates the Izmir plant in a joint venture with Turkish construction firm Alke Insaat, which is well located for the transportation of components in Turkey and other countries.

Nordex CEO Jürgen Zeschky said: "With this tri-supplier strategy we will be able to boost our capacity for the N117 turbine substantially in the future, ensuring even more reliable deliveries for our customers."

Nordex said its decision to manufacture in Turkey will improve its market position in the country in terms of qualifying for its feed-in-tariff.
