Under the deal, Vestas will supply 28 V100 1.8MW turbines to the Los Altos wind farm, which will be located in the state of Jalisco. The turbine is designed for low wind speed areas.
The contract includes a 10-year service agreement. Delivery is expected to begin in Q4 with the aim of commissioning the project by Q2 2013.
This is Vestas' second order from Grupo Dragon. In March, Vestas commissioned the 28.8MW Arriaga development. It is located in the town of the same name, near the Pacific coastline, and comprises 16 V90-1.8MW turbines.
Mexico has around 1.3GW of online wind capacity, over half in the self-supply category. It is a trend that will continue as cumulative capacity nears 5GW in 2017 according to data from state utility CFE.
The Global Wind Energy Council estimates Mexican wind capacity could reach 12GW by 2020.
