The turbine features a new 55.5-metre blade and comes in tower sizes of between 93-metres and 140-metres. Gamesa claims the G114 will help it in its aim to lower the cost of energy of its turbines.
In 2010, it pledged to reduce its clients' 'Cost of Energy' by 20% and 30% over the next three years and five years respectively, as part of its business plan for 2011-to-2013.
Gamesa claims the turbine's swept area has been increased by 38%. There has also been a 20% increase in energy output on its predecessor the G97 2MW.
The first prototypes are expected to be produced in 2013 and to become generally available by the end of the year.
Speaking about the launch, Gamesa marketing director Juan Diego Diaz said: "Our customers need to make the best use of the energy potential offered by low-wind sites, and thus require a turbine that can get maximum energy with a low investment cost.
"The G114-2.0 MW turbine is based on the same technology used in the G97-2.0 MW, but with some elements optimised and reinforced."
The G97 was launched in 2010. At the time, Gamesa said the 97-metre long turbine had a 16% bigger swept area and 14% more energy output than Gamesa’s G90.
