The turbines will be installed in Brazilian utility CPFL’s 120MW Atlântica wind farm in Rio Grande do Sul, the country’s southern-most state.

Apart from supplying and installing the turbines, Acciona will also oversee the operation and maintenance of the wind farm over the next 15 years.

The deal marks a significant step forward for Acciona’s international ambitions. Last year the company relaunched its AW3000 3MW turbine in an attempt to reverse its declining share of the global OEM market.

"The contract with CPFL Renováveis opens up a new market of clear commercial interest to Acciona “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç," the company’s chief executive Pedro Ruiz said. "We are entering Brazil with a strong customer who is one of the country’s leading wind power operators."

Acciona plans to construct a wind power component assembly plant in Brazil.
