According to reports, Trump is threatening to cancel plans to build the hotel and golf course complex if the Scottish government approves Vattenfall's 100MW Aberdeen Bay wind farm off the Scottish coast. Trump has halted work pending a decision from Scottish ministers.
The offshore project aims to test next generation wind turbines, which will be visible from the golf course.
The issue puts the Scottish government in a difficult position. Although renewable energy is a keystone of the ruling Scottish National Party's policy, the party's leader and Scottish first minister Alex Salmond has previously thrown his weight behind Trump's plans.
In a letter to Salmond last year, Trump said his £750 million development, which also includes houses and a luxury hotel, is threatened by the wind farm.
In the letter, Trump described the wind farm as a "useless eyesore" and said the 11-turbine project would be "disastrous and environmentally irresponsible".
It went on to say: "Please understand that I am not fighting this proposal merely for the benefit of Trump International Golf Links. Instead I am fighting for the benefit of Scotland.
"Every location in the United States with a magnificent coastline — nothing compared to Scotland — has successfully defeated these horrendous looking, noisy and inefficient structures."
