Over the last ten years, all Fuhrländer's turbine designs have been supplied by W2E, which is based in the northern German port of Rostock.
The two companies' most recent development is a 3MW turbine. Several 3MW prototypes are to be installed this year, at Fuhrländer's headquarters in Waigandshein, in W2E's home German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and in the Ukraine.
Development of the innovative turbine type was supported with R&D funds from the federal environment ministry, said W2E on 2nd January 2012. It uses the "hybrid drive-train" technology supplied by Siemens' subsidiary Winergy.
Previously, W2E had provided the design for a 2.5MW turbine which Fuhrländer markets through joint ventures and manufacturing licences around the world. It has also worked on a 2MW turbine type that is currently at the prototype testing stage.
