Fuhrlander supplies first Ukrainian MW-class turbines

UKRAINE: The first MW-class turbines are now operating in Ukraine, following the recent inauguration of the 25MW Novoazovskiy project in the Donetsk region near the Azov Sea.

Fuhrlander's FL2500 will be used on the Ukrainian projects

Construction of the plant, which features Fuhrlander FL-2500 2.5MW turbines, is now continuing with plans to build up to 107.5MW by 2015.  

The project is owned by local firm Wind Park Novoazovskiy LLC.

The Fuhrlander turbines were installed at the site of an existing 21.8MW wind farm, composed of 169 outdated 107.5kW turbines and six 600kW machines.

With this new project Ukraine’s installed wind capacity has now risen to 112MW, figures from the Ukrainian wind-energy association (UWEA) show. 

According to UWEA, 10 2.5MW Fuhrlander turbines are also set to be installed at the Ochakov wind project in the Nikolaevskaya region in the south of the country this year.

That facility should eventually be built up to 500MW and is backed by the same group of investors behind the Novoazovskiy project.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian company Konkord group has two projects — the 100MW Kazantipskaya project and 180MW Sivashskaya project — nearly ready for construction and is in talks with potential investors. 

However, the uncertain economic backdrop has helped to slow the progress of these and other Ukrainian wind-energy projects.
