The company won a tender from state utility Instituto Costarricense de Electricid (ICE) to deliver the project. Acciona has a 20-year deal to sell electricity from the plant.
The project, which will be located at Chiripa in the municipality of Tilaran in the north west of the country, will use Acciona’s 1.5MW turbine.
Under the terms of the deal, ownership of the project will pass on to ICE once the 20-year PPA is over.
Construction of the project is set to start at the end of 2012 and come into service in 2013.
