Repower shifts manufacturing to India in restructure

GERMANY: Repower is moving part of its 2MW turbine manufacturing to one of Suzlon's Indian plants as part of a reorganisation of its German operations.

The turbine manufacturer said it is investing €10 million in both Bremerhaven and the expansion of its assembly plant at Trampe/ Eberswalde, Brandenburg. It follows the launch of a nacelle and hub facility in Bremerhaven.

Trampe, which currently assembles Repower’s 2MW turbines, is being upgraded to cater for the 3.XM 3MW series.

Assembly of the 2MW turbine will be moved to Husum and manufacturing will go to Portugal and Suzlon’s plant at Padubidri, India. Padubidri will make nacelles and hubs.

The move will allow Repower to produce an additional 300MW from 2012. Its current output at the sites is 600MW.

Repower chief operating officer Gregor Gnädig said: "We have to reposition our three German plants and expand capacities in good time. The European offshore business will also increase significantly over the next few years."
