The Ormonde project uses Repower's 5MW offshore turbine
UK: Vattenfall has generated the first electricity from the Ormonde wind farm off Barrow in Furness in north-west England.

When fully operational later this year the project, which will consist of 30 REpower 5MW turbines, will be able to generate 150MW. All the wind turbines have now been installed.

Work on the wind farm started in May 2010 and has involved local firm Burntisland Fabrications and the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.

UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry described the involvement of the two companies as "a real success story for the UK offshore-wind supply chain".

David Hodkinson, Vattenfall’s Country Manager said: "Ormonde is the first commercial-scale project to use 5MW wind turbines on fabricated steel-jacket foundations and sets the scene for the large-scale deployment of such technology in the rapidly expanding UK offshore wind market."
