Vestas upgrades its 2MW platform

DENMARK: Vestas has launched two 2MW new versions of its V90 and V100 turbines.

The upgrades include improvements to the gearbox and rotors. A permanent-magnet generator has also been introduced.

Vestas said that at a high wind site the V90 2MW turbine produces 10 percent more energy than the V80 2MW.

At the medium wind speed site, the new V100 produces up to 15 percent more electricity than the V90 1.8.

The new turbines will be primarily targeted at North America, northern Europe and the Mediterranean. Central Europe is to follow later this year.
