GE said the tower would initially be offered on its 2.5MW turbine series, which includes the 2.75MW 103 product. The towers consist of pre-cast concrete and steel.
Speaking about the move, GE general manager of GE Renewable Energy Europe Stephan Ritter said: "With taller towers, more sites become attractive wind farm locations.
"The increased height also offers more customer value through higher winds and a reduction in the impact of turbulence resulting in higher annual energy production."
GE recently acquired tower specialist Wind Tower Systems. In addition to designing 100 metre-plus towers, the company has developed its 'Hi-Jack technology'. This allows the nacelle and hub to be installed on the towers without the need for large cranes.
Other manufacturers to recently look at increasing tower size include Repower, which increased the hub height of its 3.2M114 turbine by 54 metres to take it to 143 metres overall.
