Suzlon receives record 1GW order from Caparo

INDIA: Suzlon has received an order from Caparo Energy for 1GW of wind power projects to be developed in India progressively by March 2013.

The projects will use Suzlon turbine models including the S88-2.1MW

The deal is valued at approximately $1.28 billion and is the largest deal to date in the Indian market.

The projects will use Suzlon turbine models including the S88 and the S9X series 2.1MW turbines. 500MW are to be commissioned by March 2012, with a further 500MW by March 2013.

Last week, Suzlon signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Gujurat to develop 1GW over the next three years.

The agreement to develop wind farms in the districts of Saurashtra, Kutch and other areas, will double Suzlon’s capacity in the north western Indian state, which is home to some of India's best wind resources.

Earlier in the month, the manufacturer won a $191 million contract from Indian mining group Vedanta to supply 150MW for four projects.

Suzlon will supply S82 1.5MW and S88 2.1MW turbines to projects in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in southern India, Rajastan in northern India and Maharastra in western India.
