Gamesa scoops 2GW Caparo supply deal

INDIA: Gamesa has signed a 2GW supply deal with Indian energy company Caparo Energy to run over the next five years.

Under the deal, Gamesa will supply its G58 850kW and G97 2MW turbines. These will be manufactured in India.

Gamesa will supply 150MW to Caparo in 2012.

In January, Caparo handed Suzlon a 1GW supply order that ran until March 2013. The projects will use Suzlon turbine models including the S88 and the S9X series 2.1MW turbines

The deal is valued at approximately $1.28 billion and was the largest deal to date in the Indian market.

Caparo plans to build a portfolio of Indian wind farms totalling 5GW by 2017, in two phases.

Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç in March, Caparo chief financial officer Vikram Kailas said in the second phase, his company was planning to buy turbines from a foreign supplier.
