Garrad selected for Suez assistance

EGYPT - The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), as an agent of the nine participants in the Joint Wind Measurement Program, has contracted the renewable energy consultancy GL Garrad Hassan to provide technical assistance for the 250MW Gulf of Suez Build, Own and Operate (BOO) wind power project.

The Gulf of Suez is the site of a 250MW wind power project

The nine participants bidding to build, own and operate the project have chosen GL Garrad Hassan to conduct a wind-measurement campaign to start this month.

The monitoring period is expected to run for a minimum of 12 months, with wind speed analysis and energy assessment to follow to support the individual bids of the shortlisted developers.

The scheme, part of a plan to generate 20% of Egypt's energy from renewables by 2020, is the first private-sector BOO wind project in the country.

EETC owns, manages and operates the high- voltage and extra-high-voltage electric power transmission grids throughout Egypt.
