The additions in the January to June period include two 5MW offshore turbines with together 10MW and 6.9MW of repowering, in which three turbines with 2.3MW each replaced 8 turbines with a total 2.88MW, according to German wind energy institute DEWI (Deutsches Windenergie-Institut).
Due to relatively poor winds, generation in the first half of 2010 was unremarkable, however, totalling 18.3TWh, on a par with wind generation in the first half of 2009 despite the increase in installed capacity, according to statistics organisation AGEE (Arbeitsgruppe Erneuerbare Energien).
For comparison, in a normal wind year, 26,387MW of wind capacity would generate about 47.8TWh over the 12-month period, according to DEWI.
